What is Apple CarPlay© and Android Auto™

Apple CarPlay© and Android Auto™ allow users to connect their cellphone and mirror its display onto the infotainment system. With easy access through large, bright icons on the touchscreen, drivers are not as distracted while trying to access important apps like their built-in phone navigation or their favorite music streaming apps. This comes in handy in states where it is illegal to operate a handheld device while driving and makes the roads safer for all, with fewer drivers distracted by their devices.

How Does Apple CarPlay© and Android Auto™ Work?

Subaru vehicles provide Apple CarPlay© and Android Auto™ integration through either a wired or wireless connection, depending on the model and trim level. The wired connection requires plugging into a USB port, but it's easier because the connection is instant. You typically have to unlock your smartphone to start mirroring. For a wired connection, some initial setup is required. Follow the prompts on the screen to connect your smartphone. One of our team members at Rye Subaru can assist you with this process. Once your phone is connected, it will automatically connect every time you start the car.
